Intensity of traffic, climate and environmental conditions need to be considered when choosing colours. Low-floored vehicles get dirtier inside than vehicles with steps, and therefore require shorter cleaning cycles. The darker the colour, the easier to keep looking clean. Where light colours are chosen, a more rigorous cleaning programme will be needed. Floors with multi-coloured vinyl chips conceal soiling more effectively than plain floors. Certain chemicals such as harsh cleaning products, or substances in hydrocarbon composition pavements (sidewalks), can also cause staining.
