spacer image Designing flooring to meet accessibility regulations

With a few exceptions, all public transport vehicles, in most countries, must now or in the near future comply with Accessibility Regulations. Guidance can be obtained from the relevant government department in your country, and our representative will be able to assist you with issues that relate to the choice and design of flooring. The regulations are there to make public transport more accessible to less able people, especially those who:

are not able to walk unaided, including wheelchair users

have impaired vision or hearing,

are not able to communicate easily

The regulations make life safer and more comfortable for all the travelling public - women with young children, and anyone who is carrying shopping or luggage.

Altro Transflor's unique combination of safety features are designed to help by:

ensuring a high degree of slip-resistance, even in wet conditions

introducing contrast - in colour (light reflectance value, hue and tone) and/or texture to help identify changes in interior levels, steps, doorways, and safety features. This is a legal requirement in certain areas of vehicles

signifying steps and entrances with contrasting nosings allowing integral cut-in signs and patterns for example, for wheelchair areas
